Old Trafford To Be Theater Of Nightmares For The Blues?

If Manchester United are to be stopped from winning their record 19th league title, it would have to come down to what Chelsea and Arsenal can do. It would appear that Chelsea are the team who might still have the greatest say in United’s destiny, as they have yet to play the Red Devils at Old Trafford. Many Blues fans can still recall the days when they went head to head against United on several occasions and came out on top. Then, they were led by Jose Mourinho who was perhaps the Chelsea’s greatest and most successful manager of all time. Times have changed since he left as Carlo Ancelotti now presides over what is essentially the same team that were involved in the club’s previous title wins.

Despite having more or less the same set of players who were once infallible against the best, the present squad’s mentality appears to be very different. During Mourinho’s time, they would often out muscle and out think the Red Devils consistently no matter the mind games played by Alex Ferguson. It is a different scenario now as the Chelsea players appear flustered and frustrated during games as they watch United drive past them in the league. The huge lead they built in the early months has now disappeared. Instead, it is now up to them to overcome that deficit they find themselves in in the MU vs Chelsea live telecast match at Old Trafford to put themselves in pole position for the title. There is hardly any sign of assurance or composure in the Stamford Bridge team with players and manager all knowing that they cannot afford any more mistakes.

It might not be difficult to feel for what Chelsea is going through. Manchester United are a club that has been bred on success for many years now since their manager arrived. Alex Ferguson does not endear himself to many, but success is not bred from being popular. With the number of titles won running into double figures, including several cups in both English and European football, the United boss remains hungry for more success. That will manifest itself in the competition against Chelsea for the title. The opposite can be said for Carlo Ancelotti even though he has had notable successes in the past. The Italian remains questionable when it comes to mind games as shown in his past spats with Mourinho. Now he might have met his match in English football as well in the shape of Manchester United and Ferguson.
