You might not believe me when I tell you this. I know that if I heard it, I would not probably believe you. Nonetheless, there is nothing that inspires individuals quite as much as aerobic pictures to get fit and in shape. I know how skeptical people are about motivational pictures. Everyone has seen that crap posted on the walls of their cubicles ? someone climbing a mountain alongside some caption about "persistence", or "excellence" under it, or some teeny-weeny kitten hanging on to the edge of a table with her claws, underneath which is inscribed, in sparkling cutesy letters, "hang on". It is preconceived a sign of very bad taste even to put such thing up ? unless you are a middle manage, in which bad taste is considered a virtue. Nonetheless, at least alongside aerobic pictures, it is true. The perfect picture can really get people moving.
I should know. I am a manager at the Skinny Booty Gym downtown, and among my various duties is decorating the walls. It has given me oodles of time to watch men and women in their workouts, and the differences that those aerobic pictures create is surprising. Before I put them up, most people seemed to be just slogging painfully through their workouts, without hope of ever accomplishing any fitness goals. I put up the aerobic pictures, however, and things have been hugely different. It is as if the aerobic pictures give everyone a burst of confidence that makes them practically shine. I know the gleam of sweat, and can tell it from the glimmer of confidence. here is the ray of belief. They look at those aerobic pictures and stand up straighter, work that much harder, and I assume, go home feeling better about themselves. Even the aerobic exercise classes seem to go better having the pictures around the room.
I have already taken down my other motivational posters and put up the aerobic pictures all over my cubicle in the gym. when I am not working out, the pictures of fit, trim people doing their aerobics workouts seems to convince me to put a little bit more into whatever I am working on at the moment. There are many types of decorations which are prettier, more interesting, and eye-catching than aerobic pictures, but I have yet to see one that has a better effect on the work ethic. And isn't that the most important thing of all? |
